Prostate problems are largely hormone-based
Online pharmacy serves your needs for prescriptions, health and wellness products, and health information.
Even today many physicians claim that testosterone is not good for a healthy prostate and even may cause cancer to grow. But as men age, their level of testosterone goes down and there is a rise in prostate-related conditions, prostate cancer, and BPH. This incorrect thinking about testosterone began over 80 years ago. In ancient times one doctor thought castration was the way to cure prostate cancer.
Even then, however, medical people knew estrogen was harmful for prostate health and that testosterone was good for the health of the prostate. Also, the most important hormone ratio men needed to have was a balance of estrogen to testosterone, to control and keep at bay estrogen, the female hormone. Over 80 studies made this conclusion. In 1938 a study declared that disease of the prostate rose many times over as men's levels of testosterone fell with age.
Since testosterone had only been recently discovered, the patients were given fresh animal testes with good results. They referred to other studies using extracts for animal testes, as well as the recently synthesized testosterone propionate. The medical profession inherently knew that the male hormone was good for curing BPH, a common malady even then. Modern doctors are unable to prove that testosterone leads to prostate illness.
There are research doctors who think diminishing testosterone levels is the path to carcinogenesis. They believe supplementing low levels would reduce the rate of cancer. Cancer patients, they found, with lower levels of testosterone had a worse prognosis according to earlier studies these doctors said. A study on low serum testosterone predicted a poor outcome in prostate cancer patients who had the lowest levels of testosterone. The lower the level the more aggressive the cancer growth and these patients died sooner. The patients with the higher level of testosterone had less aggressive tumors and lived longer.
It is commonly agreed that prostate problems are largely hormone-based. The prostate is more affected by hormones than any other factor, yet even urologists almost never test their patients for hormone levels, especially testosterone. If you demand a hormone test, it requires seeing a licensed medical doctor, getting blood drawn and paying up to two hundred dollars per hormone.
